Venice

Seven editions made across several visits to Venice — in carnival season and out of it, at night and at first light. The city resists being photographed straightforwardly. Every frame has been made before. What survives the cliché is the particular quality of light on water, and the city's fundamental indifference to the photographer standing on the bridge.
